That’s right - it may not have been released in the UK yet, but that hasn’t stopped Mat from getting his hands on Tesla’s new coupe-crossover SUV! The question is, though, just how good is it?

Well, when it comes to the design, it’s easily recognisable as a Tesla, given so many of the features and looks are similar to other cars in the Tesla range (and let’s be honest, it just looks like a jacked-up Model 3, doesn't it?).

Once you take a seat inside… It’s more of the same, with the Model Y mirroring the huge landscape-shaped infotainment screen as found in the 3.

When it comes to performance, though, the Model Y is no slouch! Both versions come with a 70 kWh battery pack, with a Long Range version that can put down 384hp, and a Performance version that delivers 450hp!

So what do you think, is the Model Y worth the £55,000 starting price?! You’ll have to stick with Mat to find out!

I wanted something that matched the OEM tesla spoiler but of course was not looking to spend a ton of money on it. From hansshow you can get this carbon fiber spoiler for both the model 3 or model y, and it comes in both glossy carbon fiber or matte carbon fiber. I chose the matte version as you can see here and first impression had me quite surprised with the quality and fit formation to the trunk. Installing this took me less than 5 mins as it was quite a breeze to affix it to my trunk.
The first task we need to do is wipe off the rear truck with a moist microfiber towel to remove dirt or dust. After wiping this down, take your finger and glide it across the top. If you feel and roughness like a gritty feel, you may want to use a clay bar application on your tesla to remove these imperfections. If you don’t, I took one last wipe down with an alcohol sheet to further remove any final imperfections.

Take your spoiler and affix it to the truck without removing the adhesive backing. Get an idea on where it should be placed by measuring on both sides of the spoiler. In my case for the model 3, it was just about 5 inches on both ends from the panel gap to the very edge of the spoiler for the perfect center placement. I used painters tape to mark my position on both ends and finally one larger piece down the middle using a sharpie pen to mark the center. Use a blade to cut the top from the hood of the trunk and the spoiler.

After we have the tape placements correct, simply pull back the adhesive backing tape to expose the sticky side of the spoiler. Now I only took off half and left the remainder in place just in case I needed to re-adjust the spoiler. However, from my experience I would just pull off the entire adhesive backing and stick it to the trunk to make the installation process easier. Be sure to align the markings on the painters tape with the line we created earlier. I started with the center and pushed hard from the middle working my way outward.

You can see I have a little difficulty removing the final red tape on the other half of the spoiler which is why I recommend just removing it all at once before placing it.

This part is not required, however, if you have a heat gun, I would recommend using it to help the adhesive material really stick to the back of your tesla. You might want to place more painters tape on it to help the spoiler cure for a few hours after installation. It’s totally up to you, this is not required.

After installation, I was really happy with how it turned out. I think it gives my tesla a more sporty look while also matching the OEM stock look. I have a link below this video showing you where to get this should you feel you can tackle this job on your own. Again, installing this was not hard at all. Just take your time and you’ll be happy with how it turned out.
