I purchased a Tesla Model Y RWD, which has the smallest battery, slowest charging and least performance in the Model Y range. But I think this is the best buy and in this video I go through why the RWD is probably the one to choose. In the UK, the long rage model costs £8,000 more and the only differences are in the powertrain. Most new buyers focus on range and there the differences aren't as much as you'd first think due to the different charging profiles on the battery packs. The RWD has a LFP battery that needs to be charged to 100% at least once a week. The AWD LR model should only be charged to 80-90% unless you're about to embark on a long journey. The RWD car at 100% SoC will do the same range as the LR car at 85% SoC. So if you charge at home, for the majority of the time there's no difference in range between the two models.
I hope this video helps new Tesla buyers.
Tesla specs can change, so do check. This car was new in December 2023 and this video was filmed in February 2024 and currently the specs have remained unchanged.

IMPORTANT: In February 2023, Tesla announced that the new 2023 Model Y dashboard (Model Y's that were built in Austin, Texas) will have a slightly different design than the generation 2 dashboard. There are two main differences: 1) There will be a screw on the side of the dashboard 2) The dashboard will be inserted in a "horizontal" manner, as opposed to vertical. So far, we have only seen these changes implemented on the Model Y, not Model 3.

To know if you have a generation 3 or generation 2 dashboard, simply remove the triangular piece on the side of your dashboard. If there is a screw holding your dashboard (located underneath your OEM dashboard wood/white trim), you have a generation 3 dashboard. A generation 2 dashboard will not have a screw attached.

This road trip started off just like any other - until it came time to get in the i15. The i15 was closed almost the entire weekend due to a truck accident carrying a lithium battery. Even worse, the alternate route was backed up even worse!

We had to do an impromptu Tesla Camp Mode with both of our dogs because we were stuck in Barstow, California waiting for the i40 to be safe or the i15 to be open. Luckily, the i15 opened early in the morning.

This 6 hour road trip turned into a 14 hour road trip! We were thankful to have the Tesla Model Y with camp mode to be able to do this.
